Why The Bear is Stumpy-tailed

Folklore Fun

Why the Bear is Stumpy-tailed is an old Norwegian fairy tale that was gathered from Norwegian folks by Jørgen Moe and Peter Christen Asbjørnsen in their fairy tale book Norske Folke-eventyr 1843.

One day the bear met the fox, who came slinking along with a string of fish he had stolen.

“Whence did you get those from?” asked the bear.

“Oh! my Lord Bruin, I’ve been out fishing and caught them,” said the fox.

So the bear had a mind to learn to fish too, and bade the fox tell him how he was to set about it.

“Oh! it’s an easy craft for you,” answered the fox, and soon learnt. You’ve only got to go upon the ice, and cut a hole and stick your tail down into it; and so you must go on holding it there as long as you can. You’re not to mind if…

Giant Wolves/Wargs of Norse Mythology

Standard

Folklore Fun

Early beginnings for the pups Sköll and Hati. Odin caught them and held them in the kennels in Asgard in order to keep their father and an enemy to the Aesir, Hróðvitnir, at bay. According to Norse folklore, wargs are mythological giant wolves such as Fenrir, Sköll, and Hati.
In the Hervarar saga, King Heidrek is asked by Gestumblindi (Odin),

What is that lamp
which lights up men,

but flame engulfs it,

and wargs grasp after it always?

Heidrek perceives the answer is the Sun, explaining,

She lights up every land and shines over all men, and Skõll and Hati are called wargs.

Those are wolves, one going before the sun, the other after the moon.

Wargs are large, dangerous wolves.

Thassos, Greece

Hi wonderful friends, I am already in my holidays on the Greek island Thassos.

I will certainly report my journey more comprehensive when I get back home. Here now just a little pics 😊❤

PS: the Mantis was the first and the only guest in the first day 😄🤗

House of Heart

Glistening sand pulls away

from a shore,

sparkling gems caught in the current.

Minute ecosystems inhabit

tiny tide pools in the wet sand.

Sometimes I stroll the embankment alone

indulging the realms of lovers

where there is no logic but

a crushing ache held close to

the breast.

A carapace between a heart and the

mountains where I left you.

Grant me the freedom to breathe

beneath the tender weight of hands

on eggshell.

My sigh is a gentle quake upon your

unshaven cheek.

Allow me to swim in the river of

your impossible eyes where there

is no threat of war, hard silence,

or the burden of forgiveness.

A New Serial Begins!

delta-pearl-cover-1 The Delta Pearl book cover created by Teagan R. Geneviene

Welcome, my chuckaboos!  If you are new around here, “chuckaboo” is what the Victorians called a dear friend.

Changes abound!  Those of you who visited my midweek post already know I’ve changed things.  If not, then you see that I’ve redecorated my sanctuary.  After many years of the same blog-look, I decided to use the steampunk banner to reflect the new serial.

Another change.  In the race between Cornelis Drebbel’s submarine and the Delta Pearl, the riverboat won the voting poll.  The new serial starts today!

Some things didn’t change.  Wait, there’s more good news.  Dan Antion, who illustrated Brother Love, is letting me use his photographs for The Delta Pearl!  Although because it is a steampunk story, I will have to use other illustrations as well…

It’s Hidebound Hump Day!

purple Steampunk woman drawing_PixabayPixabay (image altered)

Welcome, my chuckaboos!  I promise you are at the right place.  After many years of the same blog-look, I’ve changed things.

It is Hidebound Hump Day. For those of you who are new around here, “chuckaboo” is Victorian slang for dear friend.

Saturday I stopped wallowing in my indecision and did a poll to ask you which of two  stories you wanted to read (and participate) as my next weekly serial.  One was The Skull of the Alchemist.  That is the next adventure for my fictionalized Cornelis Drebbel character.  The other is not a series (at least not yet), called The Delta Pearl.  Both are steampunk fantasies, and look like the Victorian Era.

Drebbel’s steampunk submarine and the Delta Pearl riverboat were in a race!  Are you ready to know which won?  Drum roll…..  The winner…
